Atmospheric readings in cafés and pubs turn vielSeitig into a literary strolling festival
There are many kinds of readings: digestive they are only in the smallest room; as a good-night-story at the children’s bedside; or in the local library with a glass of water and accompanied by piano music. vielSeitig. European Literature Festival Siegen goes different ways for the second time.
Besides large-scale literature presentations in the Lÿz – in 2012 with, among others, Uwe Ochsenknecht’s interpretation of Hallgrìmur Helgason’s Icelandic murder mystery “The Hitman’s Guide to House Cleaning“, the French literature soiree “Bonmot”, a “European Poetry Slam” or an exclusive literary cabaret with the TV literary critic Dennis Scheck – during vielSeitig many a best-selling author will betake themselves to the intimate atmosphere of a smoky pub or a cosy street café. This year authors from England and Ireland will be presenting their book in this “different” ambience, just like writers from Italy, Austria and Slovakia. Literary representatives from eight European nations offer samples of their skills and give insights into the peculiarities of their fellow countrymen. Since not everybody in the audience is likely to understand the respective original language, the readings are supported by interpreters and presenters who will either simultaneously or consecutively translate the relevant passages into German.
The festival programme is as of now available on this website. However, not everything is “home and dry” yet; we will keep you up-to-date here.
